Taiyuan Subway Extends to Ximing Road and Xishan Locomotive is moved to Warehouse Temporarily

August 25, ‘Upstream 1381’ steam locomotive, which was displayed on the east side of the office building of Xishan Coal and Electricity, would be moved to the warehouse for temporary storage owing to the construction of Taiyuan Subway Line 1, which would be displayed in the completed Xishan National Mining Park in Taiyuan in future.

Weighing about 100 tons, the locomotive was difficult to lift. Preparing more than ten days, Xishan Coal and Electricity Railway Company worked out a plan together with the professional hoisting company, which was dividing the locomotive into two parts for hoisting, and then assembling after arriving at the designated location.

Because the lifting location was at the intersection of Xikuang Street and Ximing Road with large traffic flow, the moving lasted for 16 hours in ‘enclosed-style ‘operation with the cooperation of the public security and traffic police.

It was reported that the locomotive came into service in 1971 and retired in 2006, transporting more than 80 million tons of coal in total, which witnessed the the development and growth of Xishan Coal Electricity. In order to remember the history and show the future generations, this locomotive bearing the emotional memory of Xishan people with full of symbolic significance had been displayed for visit in the east side of Xishan Coal and Electricity office building since 2011.
